This ‘Quick Sip’; Appaloosa Syrah 2016 produced by Claar Cellars in the Columbia Valley of Washington state. 100% Syrah made from grapes sourced from their White Bluffs Vineyard.
I received this wine as part of a ‘mystery case’ wine shipment ordered from the Wine Awesomeness wine club. The mixed case included 12 surprise bottles of red and white wine—varying varietals and vintages—selected by the Wine Awesome team.
While I have not tasted all of the wine from the shipment, this juice is one that I certainly thought worth mentioning.
Syrah (/ˈsiːrɑː/), also known as Shiraz, displays one of the deepest red hues of any red wine available and originated in France. The color of this wine is indicative of its namesake.
Tasting Notes
Initial dark plum, eucalyptus, black raspberry, and undertones of vanilla aromas. Ample decanting time needed to allow the wine to open up fully. Ripe black fruit, rich milk chocolate, lush raspberry on the palate. Graphite notes make an appearance referencing the sandy, rocky soil of the vineyard. Cigar box, star anise, tongue-tingling eucalyptus, and spicy notes of black pepper show up as well. Noticeable tannins and elevated acidity combine to complete the package.
The wine’s medium-bodied and fruit-forward, with a whopping alcohol volume of 13.5.

I really enjoyed this wine. Appaloosa Syrah 2016 is an easy-drinking wine that can be paired with a variety of flavorful dishes or on it’s own. I recommend pairing with meaty dishes with elevated flavors; for instance barbecue and steak
Easily affordable at the cost of $18, the wine is a real value. According to information published on their website, the winery
“… believes that wine should be fun, affordable and an integral part of the good life and produces Premium wine that is sold in bulk and bottles to wineries and distributors throughout the US.”
~ Claar Cellars
Please keep in mind wine is subjective, and each palate has it’s own preference. I encourage you to explore and sip your way to what is pleasurable to your palate.
