Eroica Riesling 2016 – Straddle The Seasons

Summer refuses to retreat to fall in my corner of the world. So, I decided to straddle the seasons with this legit bottle of Eroica Riesling 2016. Dry riesling wines pair amazingly well with both warm and cooler weather.

It’s been a while since I explored the varietal—not sure why—but now, I have a renewed curiosity. I can’t wait to explore more.

Tasting Notes

This Ernst Loosen and Chateau Ste. Michelle winemaker Bob Bertheau’s collaboration is an incredibly lovely harmonization of both the old and new worlds. Eroica Riesling 2016 jabs a bouquet of petrol and moist slate into your nostrils on approach. You keep going back to re-evaluate aromas. But, at the same time, somehow it encourages you to dive right in. In the mouth, notes of citrus zest, mandarin oranges, and tree fruit instantly step to the forefront and create a pleasing melody. More subtle florals and pink grapefruit ease in, but stay in their lane. This wine is complex yet balanced, juicy yet dry with beautiful acidy .

Bonus Tip

Bonus tip – check your local Food Lion grocer; this one was on “Manager’s Special” for a mere $10. That is a STEAL!

From The Vineyard

Launched in 1999, Eroica is a labor of love for two of the world’s great Riesling producers. One from the Old World, Dr. Loosen estate of Germany, and the other from the New World, Chateau Ste. Michelle of Washington state. An intermingling of Old and New World philosophies and techniques enables the crafting an extraordinary Riesling from Washington state grapes. Named for Beethoven’s Third Symphony, Eroica reflects not only its variety and site, but also its heritage: bold and forward from its Washington roots, elegant and refined from German inspiration.
