Football is my favorite sport, and Superbowl Sunday is one of my favorite days of the year. I am not sure if I look forward to the game more or all the yummy food… I mean, come on, who doesn’t love game-day food, even if you’re not a football fan. I like to begin my Sunday with what I call my morning fuel. Avocado toast and wine spritzers are light and refreshing option to start the big day.
As a host, game-day food preparation is essential, but it doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Starting the day out with a good breakfast can help give you the fuel to keep you going strong until the festivities begin. I like to keep the meal light and simple, yet satisfying.
Avocado toast is really easy to prepare, and there are tons of topping options.
I don’t know anyone who doesn’t like avocado toast. My family simply loves the toast. There is something about this toast; the avocado’s creaminess, the toast’s crunch, and the salmon’s flavor; oh my goodness, my mouth is watering just talking about it. Exceptional! Exceptional! The first recorded sighting on a menu may have been in 1993 when Sydney chef Bill Granger started serving it at his cafe.
Of course, there has to be an accompanying cocktail to complete the course. Breakfast and brunch are perfect for light fruity cocktails. The options are endless, but wine spritzers, sangrias, and bloody marys are some of the more familiar favorites. These drinks are perfect compliments because they include fruit and veggies, and I have even seen some that incorporate savory elements. I am always in awe when I see bloody marys with olives, celery, pickles, and bacon. I love the creativeness, but I think I will stick to my wine spritzer.
A wine spritzer is basically wine, some type of carbonated mixer, and fruit of choice.
White wine spritzers are very common in the warmer months; there is no better way to cool down on those hot days. However, while I don’t subscribe to white wine in the summer and red and the winter, I subscribe to red wine spritzers in the cooler months. They offer the best of both worlds; beautiful bold, rich flavors with a touch of refreshing fizz and fruit. I tell you, spritzers are so yummy, and avocado toast and wine spritzers together is always a meal that I can get behind.

Avocado Toast and Wine Spritzers
For this toast, I sliced up some lovely fresh ripe avocados and a boiled egg and placed it atop of some crispy buttered toast, and topped it with pieced of beautiful smoky salmon. To learn more about my beautiful boozy wine spritzer, head over to my Instagram page.
